The characters could not be any flatter. 1. It teaches you that you always need to have faith no matter what. Go see this movie it is truly a life changing experience.

Maybe only a Latter-day Saint would understand everything here, but for lovers, young and old, I think you'll like it, even though religion is a major theme. January 24, 2003 The plot is predictable and boring. Now first time director, Adam Thomas Anderegg, using a fine script adaptation by Janine Whetten Gilbert, has turned CHARLY into a deeply moving story of love and faith! Charly Gordon (Cliff Robertson) is a mentally handicapped man with a strong desire to make himself smarter.
That's why it is, and always will be one of my favorite movies.
You should really watch this movie until the end.
Memebers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should find this a special moving-going experience.

In 1975, he won the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished criticism. As many reviewers have mentioned, Heather Beers is the perfect Charly, a wonderful actress deserving of Hollywood fame. Strangely enough, Ralph Nelson's "Charly" succeeds as a movie for reasons having little to do with the plot. But what is unnecessary is all the scientific stuff. If you start his movie and don't watch it to the end you are really missing out. Utah is supposed to be the Jell-O capitol of the world -- and then add syrup to that! For one I simply can not afford them and to go in to a theater and be insulted by what I see makes me mad. I thought the movie was a little long and slow, but also thought provoking and well made for an LDS film.

This movie based on Jack Weyland's book was very well done and I loved it! and progress. This film will also appeal to anyone who appreciates a decent, clean love story. The rest deals with the relationship between Charly and Sam, including the arguments, hardships and tragedies that happen IN SPITE OF their faith.
