He received an undergraduate degree from the University of Denver and an MBA from Columbia University. He and Rumbough bought and renovated Tupper Lake’s former Ginsberg Department Store Building. FRANKLIN COUNTY — A Connecticut multimillionaire who uses a seaplane to reach his remote waterfront property in Tupper Lake is seeking to seize control of the insolvent Adirondack Club and Resort project.In one of the biggest foreclosure actions in the history of the Adirondacks, Stanley Hutton Rumbough moved to capture the project site, which borders his 25-acre lakeside compound. The foreclosure suit’s aim is to put 5,800 acres at the edge of Tupper Lake up for public auction, presumably to be snapped up by Crossroads ADK.That group and Crossroads Preserve, which are not related to a similarly named entity trying to build a boutique hotel in Tupper Lake, are underwritten by Rumbough. Great-grandson of Post cereals heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post and financier E.F. Hutton.

Through one of his limited liability corporations, Rumbough purchased that mortgage in October and a month later sued for foreclosure, public records show.Rumbough has also invested in fixing up the ski mountain facilities, McNally said, which he said still need at least $10 million in renovations. After 15 months of nonpayment, and 10 percent default penalties, the trust is owed more than $5.75 million. … Somebody like that who has funding and has the community at heart, they can make things happen.”Phyllis Thompson, whose Simon Pond camp is close to Rumbough’s, said she hopes he embraces “conservation design.”“I would hope he would not implement the permit as it is now and he would modify it and cluster the development and leave a large part of the Oval Wood Dish land open,” she said.The club and resort project has been hailed as a potential boon to the Tupper Lake Region. That latter sum is some of the money Crossroads principal Stanley Hutton Rumbough put into the project for road construction, services and materials between August 2017 and February 2019, according to court records and interviews.Crossroads ADK, created this October, and Crossroads Preserve LLC, created in October 2018, are backed by some of the same principals and is represented by the same lawyer, Simos C. Dimas, of Manhattan, state records show.Dimas said Rumbough is associated with both Crossroads entities. The Dimas Law Firm was identified as representing that LLC.The club and resort project has been hailed as a potential boon to the Tupper Lake Region.
