The ending was so unexpected, in a wonderfully hopeful way, that I hope it blows down the doors of "bury your gay" tropes and allows light to shine on all happiness for future films and television (not to mention, that its feminist aspects of freedom were a pleasant reminder that not all happy endings are perfect).
